As the football season gets underway, waves of excitement can be felt flowing through our shops. As keen followers of football, the reduction in our yearly intake of the sport left us feeling underwhelmed and agitated. Now the game is back, as each weekend draws near, the chatter from the chair is increasingly filled with footy.

To help us get into the spirit we thought a look at some of the wildest styles seen on the pitch would help remind us of some of footballs great moments.

Neymar Jr.

Keeping up with Neymar’s hairstyles may be marginally easier than keeping up with him down the wing. His fast and fancy styles certainly don’t stop at his feet. Our favourite fad from the book of Neymar Jr. has been the skin fade with a thick mohawk.

Mario Balotelli

His antics on and off the pitch have brought him notoriety for all the right and all the wrong reasons. If he’s not making headlines for his crazy conduct or a thirty yard free-kick, you can guarantee they’ll be talking about his haircut. A personal favourite for us was his own ‘headlines’. A shaved head with a hair tattoo.

Marouane Fellaini

As if being 6’4” didn’t make him stand out from the crowd enough, Fellaini had the most outrageous afro seen outside of Don Cornelius’ Tv show, Soul Train. After a seven year stint at Old Trafford, Fellaini has now taken up residence in China playing for Shandong Luneng Taishan F.C in the Chinese Super League.

Rigobert Song

The Big Chief, as they called him in Turkey, holds three records. One, for being the youngest player ever sent off in a world cup (aged 17). Two, for the best haircut of the 2010 world cup. His blonde afro and beard combo made it all the way to the final, completing the trilogy as the only player to play in both the 1994 and 2010 world cup finals.

Djibril Cisse

If you’d like to know the secret to making a mohawk memorable, green hair dye is the answer. Regular changes in styles wooed the Kop during his time at Anfield. His pièce de résistance came at the Stadium of Light though, with a green stripe right down the middle of his head.
